Description

Lemme just say that although I'm seriously loving the final outcome of this one, I gotta admit that this one was a bit of a problem from the start. not because insects are hard to draw, but because I FREAKING HATE MUSHROOMS.

Ever since I was little, I have always had a near crippling fear of mushrooms/ molds/ funguses.
every time I saw one, I would become deathly afraid and literally run out of the room crying a little while scratching myself all over because seeing one would just make my skin crawl, and it still does. And growing up, even though I never really had the same reaction (fully) while looking at a picture of Parasect, but because I knew the origin story of this thing, I had always had a hard time liking it / looking at it.

But recently, I wanted to try getting over that fear of mine.
and what better way to do it than to draw it all out?
-------------------

Parasect is not a very popular Pokemon with most trainers (even the bug enthusiasts) and once you understand the full biology of it, it's not too difficult to see why...nearly everything about this Pokemon is hazardous to human health.

Breathing in any of the powders that come out of the giant mushroom on its back or even touching the slim white hairs on its claws can cause either paralysis or death, touching the mushroom on its back without any kind of proper protection (like gloves) can result in the growth of contagious grotesque warts on ones hands, because of its blindness, a Slash attack from a startled Parasect is devastating enough to almost completely disembowel a fully grown man and last but certainly not least, a bite from this thing is venomous.

Because of all of this information we have about these little guys, almost no one wants to be around them (with good reason) and only the bravest trainers willing to put up with basically wearing fullbody hazmat suits at all times are willing to train one of these Pokemon.

Aside from the thing being a constant ticking time bomb of dangers to the human body, in terms of actual temperament, they are hardly aggressive but instead quite shy, docile and slow, preferring to live alone deep in the darkest and dampest parts of the forest. But it's not too surprising considering that the actual insect no longer has a working mind of its own, and instead is completely controlled by the parasitic mushroom on its back.

The mushroom is very large, and throughout the Parasect's life it slowly sucks the nutrients from the host, making itself even larger.
eventually the mushroom will become too big to carry, and the Parasect will die. But once that happens, the mushroom will secrete a pheromone that is practically invisible to other Pokemon but is like a magnet to Paras. once the Paras have made their way to the mushroom, it will then explode, releasing millions of spores into the air. these spores will then latch themselves onto these Paras to begin the cycle anew.

So, Parasect is basically a walking biohazard.
