Appearance:

'Grinning Doffies', nowadays known as 'Mantine' are very large semi-aquatic flying beasts
with large bodies and wide wing-like fins that often span up to 60 feet or more.
they have antenna-like appendages on the tops of their heads long flowing ribbon-like tails
and small beady eyes about the size of dinner plates. Their bodies tend to be colored with varies shades of blues and greys,
with eye-like markings on their head and fins. These marking are thought to be used for communication
with others of their pod as they markings seem to sparkle and glow at night when Mantine are most active.

And for their namesake, they all tend to have wide mouths with a near permanent grinning expression.

Biology:

Mantine are Water / Flying type Pokemon that prefer to spend most of their time soaring and gliding in the air,
using the vast oceans only when they need to sleep, breed or feast on fish Pokemon.

Mantine like to fly into the skies and play with each other as they migrate in groups of
10 to 15 individuals in order to find better food and breeding grounds.

Mantine are extremely social Pokemon, and can easily get along with other Pokemon
of varying species. For hundreds of years, they have been used for both air and sea
travel, and even to this day they are still popular for transportation, especially since
they are so easy to care for.

They are relatively clean and healthy creatures that you need little to worry about,
as they seem perfectly capable of handling themselves in matters such as those.

But as mentioned earlier, they are very social and need lots of attention in the form
of playing and feeding (solid materials), but many are satisfied with petting sessions
and just being able to hang out with their trainers or other Pokemon companions.

Diet:

Surprisingly, this Pokemon's diet consists mostly of air and sky clouds,
making it one of the easiest creatures to feed. Though they have also been known to feed on
field grasses, fruits and berries and also smaller Water Pokemon such as Finneon, Shellder, Corsola
and most definitely Remoraid, since these fish in particular need to be consumed in order
for its pups (Mantyke) to evolve and become Mantine themselves.

For anyone with a Mantyke and desiring to evolve it, please know that the Remoraid
must be freshly caught from the sea and whole. Mantyke consume the life energy of Remoraid
to activate evolution cells within their own bodies, so feeding them canned, packaged or even filleted
Remoraid will not do anything.

Lifespan:

Mantine are long living Pokemon, living as long as 150 to 200 years of
age. They are too big to have many predators, and most wild ones tend to
prefer living high in the skies.

Mating Habits:

When it's time for them to breed, Mantine will drop from the sky in pairs
into the seas below them where the newly mated pair will begin to breed.

A female will spend 4 to 6 months in pregnancy and when it is time for
her to give birth, she will produce up to 2 Mantyke pups.

Triplets and Quadruplets are a rarity, but they ARE possible,
especially if bred in captivity where the pups have a much higher chance
of survival. Though it is also Water /Flying like its parents, a Mantyke pup
will be unable to fly properly due to its tiny fins and overly plump body.

It will need to devour a Remoraid and evolve if it wants to learn to fly.

Health:

Mantine are unbelievably healthy beings,
young ones are seemingly immune to many diseases and are also unaffected by cancers.
though as they start to get much older, their immunities start to fade, with most of them dying from old age.

That does NOT, however, mean that one still cannot be physically injured.
there have been many stories over the years of Mantine unintentionally slamming into trees and mountains
and injuring themselves with scrapes, cuts and bruises. And in very rare occasions, completely damaging a fin
so badly that it would need to be euthanized. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a surviving amputee Mantine.

Though, cases of critically injured Mantine are extremely rare.
For most of them, they only need plenty of food and a day or two of rest before
they are ready to take to the skies again.

Temperament and Human Interaction:

Mantine are friendly beasts that make very gentle and loving companions
to most sea-loving people. They are goofy and playful and simply adore attention.

They love to splash water or use moves such as Bubble to entice their trainers to play with them.
One trainer's Mantine, Gertie, would often blow gentle breezes of air with its mouth to blow off the trainer's hat
to get her attention. Though younger newly caught ones may tend to be rougher and use a full power Air Slash, instead.

Never yell or brutally punish them for this
.
They are not actually trying to harm their trainer,
they just don't know any better and need time to understand that a human is much frailer than another Mantine.
take time to gently speak with and let them know that behaviors like that are unacceptable.

They are intelligent creatures, so they will understand.
